MEMO

TO :           WFBL Board Member / Manager / Coach / Volunteer

FROM :     2008 WFBL Executive Board

RE :           Background Checks {Board Members / Volunteers}

Our best wishes for a very Happy & Prosperous New Year !!  The backbone of the Woodbridge Fathers Baseball League {WFBL} is the adult volunteer, dedicated people like yourself serve diligently on our Board of Directors and manage / coach our Teams year after year.

However, we fully understand that the greatest treasures we have are our children.  As adults, we must ensure that these young people grow up happy, healthy and above all, safe.  Whether they are our children, or the children of others, each of us has an utmost responsibility to protect them.  They are our future and an endless source of joy.

Like many national youth organizations, the WFBL seeks to attract the most qualified volunteers to administer our local program.  At the same time, we must be aware that this could make us a target for child abusers.  The WFBL is dedicated to educate its children and volunteers in ways to prevent child abusers from becoming involved in our League.  One of these preventions is to conduct background checks.

The purpose of these background checks is, first and foremost, to protect our children.  Second, they maintain the WFBL as a hostile environment for those who would seek to do harm.  Third, they help protect local Leagues like the WFBL and individuals from possible loss of personal or League assets because of litigation.

Failure to complete and submit the Volunteer Application Form by those required by the WFBL to do so will result in being barred from any involvement in the WFBL.  All volunteers must understand that the ONLY losers in this new initiative will be those who would prey on our most precious resource.  Your utmost cooperation is certainly appreciated.
