2011 Rookies Screening Notice

Be advised that the B - W will continue to place each Player in their respective League Divisions according to their age ; however, as we offered in 2010, B – W will once again be offering the opportunity for 8 year olds to voluntarily try – out and move up to Minors as well as for any 10’s to move up to the Majors, should they so elect, predicated on specific requirements. Every Player shall be responsible to register for their age Division and if they are selected to move up, will be required to pay the balance of the Registration fee accordingly … Click on the links below to download the appropriate form that you will be required to execute / bring with you when you attend the Minors or Majors Try – Outs :

2011 8’s To Minors

2011 10’s to Majors

In 2011, after much discussion, our Board of Directors have decided that all Players who participate in our Majors Division will be required to use Wood Bats during Regular Season play in lieu of metal or composite bats ; in All Star play, Players will then be allowed to use metal bats. There has been much written about the safety concerns of metal / composite bats and the League has taken a proactive step in trying to reduce any serious injuries from occurring by adopting this policy.

The B - W plans to form Travel Teams again for our 9’s, 10’s, 11’s and 12’s in the Spring of 2011 to give those Players an opportunity to play competitive baseball. More information to follow on this, so stay tuned …

Our All Star Policies will change in 2011 as we will no longer require the submission of Player nominations from Team Managers. We will hold scheduled Try – Outs in May for each of the 9’s, 10’s 11’s and 12’s ‘A’ Teams which all Players will be invited to, as long as they can fulfill and commit to the strict requirements - as a reminder, for those interested in playing on the Travel ‘A’ Teams (ages 9 – 12), there is a full – time commitment of ALL Players from the middle of June through the first week in August (Managers will have the discretion to allow a day off for a special circumstance and / or injury only). For those interested in playing on the ‘B’ Teams (ages 9 – 12), those requirements have been relaxed to allow more time off that in turn will allow more Players to participate. More information to follow as it becomes available …

We plan to again host our Annual 8 – Year Old Friendship Tournament that has been very successful the past several years and takes place during the entire month of July. Last year we again had 12 Teams entered and we are looking to entice additional Teams in 2011 to make it even better. The competition of these 8-year olds has been truly amazing and what great memories this Tournament creates!!

Connecticut Cal Ripken, as a result of our continued success with the 8-year old Tournament, is seriously considering hosting a Regional Tournament for 8-year olds that would include Massachusetts as well as other potential New England States. Stay tuned for further developments …

We recently sent out Parent Surveys to those who participated in Tee Ball through Majors in 2010 so B – W Baseball could receive feedback on our program, not only the positive but also try to obtain valuable feedback on the things we need to address in the future to continue to make our program successful. Overall, we received a 35% response to the survey questions that were poised and the responses were mainly positive ; however, there were items brought to our attention that we are currently working to address, one of those being the competitiveness of some of our Coaches. Our Board has therefore amended our Codes of Conduct for Managers / Coaches, Players and Parents to reflect some of the concerns raised accordingly and will require all those who participate in 2011 be required to acknowledge same by signing the appropriate form. Click on the link located on the Home Page labeled Codes of Conduct to review / obtain copies of these …

For those boys and girls who will be not younger than 13 years old as of April 30th and either wish to continue or are interested in becoming umpires in 2011, feel free to contact Brian Santos (Umpire in Chief) via email at mrmom113@sbcglobal.net to let him know, so we may contact you after the first of the year … We are always looking for a “few good umpires” and there will be mandatory instructional classes in March and April, so stay tuned for further information --

Opening Day is scheduled for Saturday, April 30th – again, so mark your calendars accordingly … This is always a fantastic event for the entire community and we normally have well over 500 people attend when the weather cooperates. All are welcome to attend and there will be some great things we plan to offer : a radar gun booth, to test the arm speed of Players and Parents alike plus a Hit / Run / Thrown competition, both sponsored by our friends the New Britain Rock Cats. More to follow in early 2011 as we continue to formalize our plans …

We will be again publishing our annual Program Book on Opening Day that contains Team Rosters for each League Division, Game Schedules, recognizes our All Star Teams from 2010, identifies our Team Sponsors plus a wealth of additional information … We are always looking for Team Sponsors, which is a fabulous way to show your support for the kids – if you are interested in sponsoring a Team (either as a renewal or wish to sponsor a Team for the 1st time), simply click on the link on the Home Page labeled Program Book to download the Sponsorship Contract, fill it out and send it in to guarantee your spot in 2011 !!

All of us associated with the BETH - WOOD BASEBALL LEAGUE (B - W) extend our sincere thanks for your outstanding and continuing support year after year – if you should have any specific questions pertaining to the League, please contact B - W President Dwight Rowland at drowland@tcco.com and / or another League Official to promptly address them !!!
